I have V?S?

Corresponding clues: 5d Vindictive, I have Vengeful.

6d Fizzy Mixer, I have Soda, thus the V and the S.

I can't think of any alternatives to the down clues.

No idea on your clue, I'm afraid, unless the V is wrong and it's LUST (as in "wanderlust").

There are several threads/discussions on this clue on the Answerbank and the consensus is that the setter has made an error. Sorry I cannot help further

VICE has since been suggested, if the fizzy mixer is Cola

Thanks very much for your input. It could well be a setter's error because the only thing I can find fitting in with ?e?g?f?l is vengeful. Maybe Lengeful is a new word?

Doing not so badly, thanks, Chrise. Still piling up the Catholic Herald crossword prizes. Recently, I won the Practical Classics (car Magazine) crossword. One dozen bottles of beer. I don't touch alcohol, so i donated it to Samaratins for their raffle. Then, I won the Radio Times crossword last week. The prize? Monopoly. Was there ever such a boring, long lasting game? Anyway, it will solve a Christmas present dilemma for someone I don't like.

I'm fine, though I had a bicycle mishap back in May and haven't been back on it since. Mostly recovered, but still a bit sore in places! Hasn't affected anything else, though - I can still golf.

Sorry to hear of your bicycle mishap. Living on an island where cycle hire is a major earner, it is not unknown for the helicopter to be called in for a poor unfortunate who perhaps hasn't cycled in years.

Anyway, it is good that you can still golf, and it hasn't affected your crossword skills either.
