Thanks Chrise

I need all the help I can get with this one. Are they getting harder or is my brain weakening? I got a new phone yesterday and I think it has used up all my brain cells trying to find all the functions.

Can I have a hint for 12ac Erect using poles etc. obvious long parts (5,1,4) I have P???H A ??N? I'm not sure about any of my crossers.

A hint for 8d may also help. Matt, perhaps, in 5 20 (5,6). Needless to say I haven't got 5,20 and I've no crossers I'm sure about. Is Matt a person?

Hi Roof
Difficult to give a hint for 8d if you haven;t got 5,20 They are more or less synonyms.

12 is obscure but good, Word for obvious around "long". I've done this more often than I would like!

Very difficult!

Thanks Mamya

That's 12ac sorted and since it confirms some crossers I hope it means 3,7d is right.

But I'm afraid I still can't get 8d. Perhaps you can help me with 18ac 11d Go on sponsored walk primarily, middle of week taken off (6,4,4)

I have ???D?R ???? ???E I know from Chrise's hints that the definition is Go and I'm assuming it is an anagram of something after taking out the middle of week, but I can't see it.

I would also like a hint for 5,20 from someone The clue is Near catastrophe, question getting involved in hideous US-Korean war (6,6) I have N?R??? ????A?

18ac 11d Go on sponsored walk primarily, middle of week taken off (6,4,4)

Go is the definition, not as in leave but bodily

Use the second word in the clue, anagram of the long word in clue, first letter of another + centre of the word week.

5/20 Hideous is the anagram indicator + add a letter for another word in the clue.

Thanks Mamya and Rusty - got it now

I thought I'd tried all the anagram possibilities, but obviously not.

What has 8d to do with it if anything?

I shall retire now and start afresh in the morning. Perhaps inspiration will strike.

Thanks again Mamya

I didn't see this reply before my last reply. This was another clue where I thought I'd tried every anagram, but again I hadn't. I've got it now, but think this is the worst clue ever.

I finished this but I do think that, in general, Paul's puzzles have got harder of late. He's been my favourite setter since John Graham passed but, increasingly, I find I'm just not on his wavelength.
