I've flown through this up to 2 (or 3, or 4?) letters left. (I won't give placed letters yet, to avoid spoiling).

8d Beetle, dog, cat, budgie and pig manure cleaner (6,7)

The clue seem far too long. I'm taking "cleaner" as the definition, and the two words before that give the last 6 letters, so the rest of the clue gives the first 7!

I can't find anything sensible to fit the letters placed for the first word. Any suggestions?

I can see a two-syllable word that works for the first word. First syllable is the first part (small part!) of the clue, the second fits the next few words. The resulting answer, with your 'cleaner' definitely works.

Thanks both. I had a letter wrong in13a

9/7 is a meteorological phenomenon that I just happened to remember. I didn't bother to parse it.
Hint - think Arthurian legends!

Ok, it's an anagram, if you put the right components together

Your first A is wrong.

Not the fairest of clues - a fairly obscure book!
