Managed to finish this despite a lot of head-scratching over 1a, but I'm surprised by one of the two clue competition words.
I won't say more than that, but I hope someone else out there knows what I mean (because there's a part of me that wonders if I've actually got it wrong!).

Really good puzzle though.

Only about a third done - sometimes I wonder why I attempt this week after week! Have both of the clues you refer to and not sure which is causing problems. (I'm impressed you finished!)

Hi Liz, I'm impressed I finished too! - I think I failed on a previous Right & Left puzzle. I don't think I'd have got there without using Chambers Word Wizard online anyway.

My doubt over the two competition words (if I have it right) is that Azed used one of them as a clue-writing competition word not all that long ago.
