3d "Communications device to signal unwittingly".

The solution is "telegraph" which, of course, is a communications device but for the life of me I cannot fathom out "to signal unwittingly".
Any suggestions out there?

Sporting commentators often use "telegraph" to mean "signal unwittingly". For instance "the bowler telegraphed that short ball". Does this help?

I think it is a double definition

second part eg
to convey (an intentional or unconscious message), especially with facial expression or body language.
"a tiny movement of her arm telegraphed her intention to strike"

Thanks Chrise and Cerasus. I've not encountered that usage before. Mystery solved!
