21d. "Set cryptically? That brings advantage", Answer - LEG UP, which gives advantage, but why "set cryptically"?

Set is leg reversed, "gel".

As it's a down clue "set" up is "gel"

If you wanted a cryptic clue for 'Set' - you could use 'Leg up to harden' for example.

No sweat Mamya. I get the gist and, as I opined earlier, it is a rotten clue anyway. Guess even The Times is not beyond reproach. Happy solving!
