Looks like it should be ALPS for range, but if so don't s see where poetic river fits in.

Any help much appreciated

As for 5d... a "tidy" is a container for odds and ends...but I cannot parse it ….nor see where "large" fits in.

I have PROCTORSHIP. I get as far as “Pro” being “in favour of” and possibly “ship” for “on board” but stumped with the rest.

PRO (DIRE)CTORSHIP. Pro (for) plus directorship (place on board) with dire (urgent) removed.
