Thanks, syzygy, a great puzzle (possibly the best Harper's since I've started solving them).
Hi sunray, re your crossing letter 30a & 4d; I don't think you've swapped the definition misprint in the answer.
Having gone over 9d with syzzie, it seems that the setter slipped up. The I has to be replaced by E, whereas the E should be replaced by I. Are we missing something?
Yes, Aristo - that troubled me too. Going by the preamble, we should change the 6th character in the entry, but that's not a checked square, and it also leaves a problem in 13 A. Changing the third character works, but we're then doing the reverse of the normal changes. It's a little disappointing, this is such a good puzzle.
Hi aristo et al, I didn't notice the setting error at 9d as I had already entered the crossers and the entry seemed ok intuitively until syzygy emailed me (shame on me as I'm usually pedantic and anally insist on parsing all answers). What a pity, such a great puzzle otherwise.
I never finished this and would like to.
Dwindles - almost a musical (4)
One letter is misprinted in the definition (so, swindles surely?)
I have G??S but other misprints could mean I'm wrong, so cold solving is best.
