Could somebody put me out of my misery regarding 28 Ac

Might one burn a little rat. (6)

S _ N _ E _

Can see reasons for it being both SINGER or SINNER but not entirely happy with either.

Is that the full clue? SINGE is "burn a little" and a "singer" could be ratting on confederates, but there is no clue for the R unless "little rat" is doing double duty (or it's a very poor effort at &lit)

a singer is a) one that burns a little (singes)
b) someone who rats (a police informer)

Thank you all, I'll go with SINGER then...
… though that being said I still don't like it much as a SINNER could also be thought of as a rat and one who burns (ie in Hell!)
