24a. endlessly lively crowd around city (7). Bristol? (city)


8d. Be inquisitive, holding obvious pose, leaning (10). propensity. = leaning.

Thanks malone. I hadn't separated the words - was thinking 'lively crowd'. Always a mistake!

8 Be inquisitive = Pry, Open, obvious and Sit, pose - Pr open sit y.

1 Yale = university, on reflection, so reversed Elay, with most of Stic(k) . criticism and It, in clue.. Ela stic it y.
