Why is it the simplest leave me stuck? Unusuaĺy for me I've almost finished except for the SE corner. I'm presuming J C Bamford has something to do with 28ac One third of residents accommodated stray but can't see why. (7) Am stuck on 20d The woman''s supporting the Guardian guides (6) I have -s-e-- but for want of a hint, that's how far I've got. Thanks in anticipation.

For 20 D I can see a six-letter word for guides, noun. It's got 'the woman' inside...
