Trench = sap (it's in Chambers)

Tre(e) = cherry, say (short/shortened word) +'n' from the end of nurseryman +Ch, check.

Last one. 32a) maintain unity,staying constant (5). The only thing that I can think of, to fit the letters I have , is 2 words. Can someone give me a little hint.Thanks.

Just got 32a) Always the case. as soon as I post, the answer comes into my head!

I believe the definition is [to] maintain - as in an idea or belief, but I'm not sure of the parsing! One word, Zero Evergreens!

The constant in 32a. is mathematical.

I'm not terrible at crosswords, I completed the Telegraph cryptic today, but I could only get three answers on this. If this is typical for a Spectator then I won't bother again.

Excuse my ignorance,have finished the crossword but what is the relevance of 2 or indeed 12.903%,please?
