I have UKES as the answer, but couldn't fully parse it.

Nukes without the N, no new. I no longer have the paper, so don't know if there's a clue 45 that would be relevant.

Thanks, Malone - that's right! Forgot about the clue number, as they don't usually run as high as this in most xwords! 45 Across was !ATOM BOMBS.
