22 down. Smith's antagonist decapitated horse with twisted rein (6)
I have OBRIEN, but cannot parse it. Actual letters O-R-E-.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Cob is the horse - decapitated it becomes Ob, add anagram (twisted) of Rein.
