Well, I finally had to contact the Times club by phone and
a very helpful girl checked various things and guided me to help
her checking certain things from my end too, and it seems that
there has indeed be an 'error' somewhere along the line with
this particular crossword on my account - She is going to
investigate further with the technical department mainly to ensure
it does not happen again, and will let me know the outcome by
mail.
She also sent me a virgin grid for this crossword which I have just
finished filled in again from scratch! (I had already got 91% of the
clues! Good I still have an excellent memory!)
All complete now and ready to submit after a last check for
typing errors tonight.
God only knows what happened there, but all is well that ends well!
