40A - Cheerful, different note for start of abstinence. GENIAL or DENIAL? Clue could be construed either way but I favour the latter. Comments?

I went with Genial, cheerful - I took a different note, G, for the D in Denial. I think perhaps the 'of' makes a difference - if the definition was Abstinence, leading to Denial, the 'of' wouldn't really make sense. Other solvers might see it differently!
