I've seen a reference to this in another thread (extremely positive). I too have enjoyed the crossword. I have a completed grid apart from three of the unclued entries. As the rubric says, the entries are random and unconnected and I believe I have the non-cryptic clues from extraneous words in the across clues. However a hint or two to enable me to fully complete would be much appreciated.

Look at what your two unclued entries have in common. 30d and the names from the down clues should help! Great puzzle.

Took me ages to work out the relevance of the title and then the light bulb came on with this 'E V' crossword. Good one, exactly what it says on the tin

Yes a very enjoyable puzzle. There was a similar one on this theme about a year ago with the items in the perimeter. "Very large rodents" also featured in that, if I remember correctly.

Glad you finished it - where was the other thread on this that you saw?

The only thing I dont understand is the reference to the tin

I think that it just means the answers are variations of enigmatic and as the puzzle is called Enigmatic Variations it does ''what it says on the tin'

Jigjag, I think the other thread might be referring to Inquisitor 1552, where I mentioned this EV in passing.

thanks - I was looking for something complicated - maybe something on "Sn"

Incidently did your friend have "that is...." last week - just a coincidence I think.

glad you enjoyed it - about the right standard for me.

Jigjag, it was a bit too simple for me - I like more of a challenge! It was good fun, but not at all taxing.
