Have finally admitted defeat trying to parse these, would appreciate it if someone could put me out of my misery.....

31a Mathematician's London university taking theory into space (9) - EUCLIDEAN

This is particularly baffling because the name of the mathematician is EUCLID, so I'm not sure of the definition or wordplay!

45a Ancient 'as allotted time cut shot (7) - OLDSTER

This might work as (h)OLDS TER(m), but only if 'Shot' is a misprint of 'Short' (Time/Term cut short), but I've checked on all the relative threads and there's no mention of it.
