Having trouble with last 2 clues. Any help gratefully received:

2D In hospital emergency ward, getting increasingly sick (7)
I have I-S-N-R and am guessing “insaner” but can’t parse it;

27A Character from 25 perhaps a long way from base (3)
I have P-I so either Phi or psi, but similarly can’t parse it.

2 In san(hospital) ER, emergency ward.

What was clue 25? That might help with 27.

The answer to clue 25 was the “Odyssey” hence why I think it’s a Greek letter/character

The PH scale runs from 0 [acid] to 14 [base]

so PH1 is a long way from base [PHI]
