I fear I am going to regret asking this ... but:

Thanks brendan. But I'm still not home. I get that "staff" is "pole" but how does "supposed migrant worker" work?

I think it's referencing the fact that quite a lot of the UK's migrant workers are from Poland.

I thought it was a very poor clue, on the silly side actually!

Thanks again. If that is so, I was right for the wrong reason. I thought that there might be some dazzling cleverness I could not see. In fact it seems it was just a pathetic clue. Oh well. Let's see what the Guardian Genius has to offer tomorrow!
