R?F?I?FA?E Should be able to get this with all these letters but can't see anything from wordsearch

Raffinate - from Paraffin ate, with the Pa, father, dropped.

C?R?I?G looks like it must be CURLING = game, but don't see that CURING = what comes next

24d "Energy went up before days gradually grew shorter?" (6)

E?O?E? looks like it must be ERODED, but again don't quite see the parsing.

Any help much appreciated

24 E = Energy, Rode = Went Up, on horseback and D, days?
