I had not heard it called "white wing" :)
There have been no sightings of chaffinches in my garden for two years at least. The last ones had viral papillomas on their feet, a disease which has now become common in that breed mainly due to feeders not being kept clean. I always cleaned mine, but other gardeners may not have been so careful.
