It looks as if this refers to the clue at 7 - ac or d.

Desecration is an anagram of considerate, but that doesn't help.

I think the answer is SELF-CENTRED as in:
"die SEL F uel" although I can't fully explain the relevance of the clue ! - with this compiler, that's nothing new!!

Thanks for telling me, Alan - I've been thinking about it. But self-centred - not considerate - I suppose that's the relevance. Happy puzzling!

I guess the 'centred' bit is by virtue of 'self' being the middle letters of diesel fuel (if I've understood it correctly that it's that bit you are trying to explain).
