Thank you, PROSIEST was my initial thought, but my answer to 16a gave me an S as the second letter.

So probably I'm incorrect with 16 across, which reads:

Small number taken in by jolly assured performers in Swan Lake? (8) for which I have DANSEUSE, which I'll now amend to read DANSEURS.
