Have a completed grid and have highlighted the feature that separates the unclued entries, but am struggling with the two prize-winning firsts. Any ideas gratefully received.

3 down reminds me of annoying schoolboys: "Bet you can't guess what I'm thinking." Didn't bother with the rest of this boredom.
It would make everyone happier if these compilers tried to make it wittier, try to make someone laugh. Or at least, smile

It has 8 letters. One letter is already highlighted IN the other FIRST.

If you have symmetry, you'll have something in the centre of the grid, vertically.
