4d. When the bees hum in the garden, does it hum back (3,4). T?? ?O?L. I think the answer is top soil but not sure how it is derived from the clue given. Thank you

This clue appeared in a crossword in 2013 and Top Soil was the answer. I cannot see the parsing

I entered part of the clue "does it hum back" into the search box on a different forum (theanswerbank.co.uk) and the clue appeared in January 2013 with the answer "top soil" but with no definite parsing.
