What's the definition for MAGNOLIA, jazzy - it's surely not purple!

Our trees have white flowers (some with purplish centres, admittedly), and the paint colour is off-white

hi Chris
I had to google magnolia to see if it was, in any way, purple, and one result showed magnolia as white, cream, rose or purple......new to me !

Without knowing that this is a thematic crossword , (the theme being TREE) 10a would, I think , be difficult to solve.

It is HERBERT (Beerbohm Tree) an old actor

Thanks jazzy
Yes, the backs of the buds are often purple, but you don't see this after they have opened.
As most of them are white, it doers seem a bit perverse to define it as "purple"!
