Well, I have a complete grid, with a couple of answers I am not completely sure about but they fit! I feel I have missed something because it seems too easy for an inquisitor and there does not appear to be any consistency in what has to be ignored in the thematic clues. There appears to be no endgame either.

look at your answers for 3a, 18 and 1d ... then you will see what you have entered ( and now why ) for the other 10 should become clear

Bunty, I too missed an actual endgame. I got this all done quickly and didn't even bother checking off the 10 other clues. It was all maybe just a little too obvious?

Jogamel, 1 D is pretty straightforward.

A three-letter word, interjection, for 'My!', and rising = ....Add 'stock at last', ie one letter. The result involves the theme.

I've completed the grid, and for the thematic ones I just put in whichever answer fitted with the others. But I don't see how any three of them "resolve doubts" about the others.

The three are those which go together, to form the title of the 'Hand Out'.

Thanks bunty and malone for explaining why I entered the words I did. As with everything it is obvious when you see it! I am just short of one of the unentered words. 18a - circulating wines. It seems to be an anagram and should be one of the 1d group, but I do not see it.
