I have completed the grid but can't see the 9 letter word to be highlighted for the life of me. I presume I'm look for a 13 across - either as part of or a whole name?

The title is 2,1,7 ... the "7" bit is part of 16d ( there is a lso a poet hidden in there)

Google the quote if you haven't got the title

Hi kirky, I think it's simpler than that with title referring to the puzzle rather than the poem albeit with the apparent "coincidence" in 16. The characters "hidden" within 13 & 16 total 9 letters.

Did anyone else think that 3 Down and 24 Across lowered the tone somewhat?

Not really, but this puzzle certainly took some dictionary-bashing!

Xerxes, I think 3dn used to be considered “coarse” but not now, posh mothers use it with their children as in “do you need to ??? Benedict?”

As for 24, let’s worry when they start using the whole word.
