Just lucked out in finding the foreign phrase.

Filled in all the clues but do not have Brewer's. Can only guess the last part to the puzzle. Can guess an 8 or 6 word sentence but not a 7.i think 1d is obvious. Can anyone help? Thanks.

I'm almost there. You said 1d was obvious. I have B?AF?IT? - not obvious to me. Have I made a mistake?
Also 7d looks odd is the last word station?

7 D - no, the last word isn't 'station', it's longer.

1 down is an important one to get right...

Your B is incorrect, so your 1A needs better to reflect the level of fill in an optimist's drinking vessel

Thanks Malone. I assume it starts with p but now the top five letters don't make sense. I have ?IG?A. Please put me out of my misery!

Thanks. Got it at last. If you find the last word in 7 d and look it up in oxfordreference you will eventually find the Brewer quote.

Farr - not sure exactly where you're at, but 1A and 1D begin with a G
