Not really a faux pas, ratslice . We all have pseudonyms and could be one or the other. I am intrigued by your username, but I dare not ask :)

ratslice is also part of my email address. It is a mix of two pseudonyms when I shared a small internet business with another guy selling antiquarian books. So the name combined ratfink (not sure how I got this moniker) + slicer (because he always went wildly to the right off the tee at golf).

Sorry - you did ask!

People have always wondered whether it was rat slice or rat's lice.
Neither sound terribly nice.

Jazzgirl - value more of interest and sentiment than monetary. Condition + scarcity tends to be the indicator of what's sought after. Still, they probably look good on the bookshelf.

Jazzgirl - date should be on the title page. Should be between 1850-90. Sometimes the date wasn't entered on the title page.

Thanks ratslice.
I wasn't interested in value or selling. I often look at them .
There's no value in sentiment I know .
They make a good talking point now and then :)
