You need a very slang word for '(a) celebrity'. Reversed it equals trees.The first letter isn't what you've got now.

Oops, I gave more than I intended - I should have referred to 'famous person'. I'm sure you'll have it now!

The preamble refers to a location. That isn’t in the grid (as far as I could see) but you can guess what it is from the anagram formed from the 6 letters that resolve clashes and the words that they become.

The thing that needs to be in the grid was a long term inhabitant of the location referred to.

What's baffling you with the preamble? I sometimes struggle with those, but found today's quite reasonable! The six letters (the third options in the words with clashes) form a word where you could find the ...changed words. Ask again if you're still baffled.
