What is the significance of the two phrases containing the word 'form' in the following clues, the answers to which seem transparently
easy (an anagram and a straight definition)? Obviously I am missing something here:

1a In stupîd form, a chore to translate (6) = HORACE

9d Fast runner often in form (4) = HARE

Many thanks, Cerasus. I see that a 'form ' is given as a synonym for 'lair', where hares are concerned. I had always thought they lived in burrows and warrens, like rabbits....

Horace is primarily known as the first major writer of odes and epistles in verse in Greco-Roman Classical lit'. I still don't see how this accounts for 'in stupid form'?
