A heck of a struggle but Just need this one:-
49 Across - "Conchie" article heralds great suffering. (7,5)
-R-M-E-S -E-L
It looked like an anagram was possible at one time, but
the "M" scotched that idea! It seems as if "HELL" may well
be the second word.
