Could someone be kind enough to parse 27 across for me.

What's played during break time, not during school holidays? (10)

I have ?n?e?m?z?o , strongly suggesting intermezzo. I see the definition part and also that in term occurs in intermezzo, but I do not know what to do with the mezzo! Any help gratefully received.

I think the ? indicates that the whole clue is the definition. i.e.
what is known as &lit (and literally)

I don't think this is an &lit clue, I think the definition is "what's played during break time";
"not during school holidays" is a reference to interm, which leaves us with ezzo.
I think the question mark is just put in to suggest that the whole clue is somewhat sloppy, but I hope someone can correct me.

22d "Japanese school: one that's raised girl" (4) ?N?Z (assuming that 27a is INTERMEZZO to give the Z)

Any help much appreciated

Inez, girl. . The Japanese school is Zen +I/one. It's raised - it's a Down clue - so becomes I nez, Inez.

26a "Deserts partner in the middle - of this?" (4)

D?E? (assuming I've got the tense right in 13d and it's a D rather than an S)

Any help appreciated

Yes, I'd thought DUES to give deserts, but couldn't see the parsing

26. across. deserts can be ones due. {singular] Partner in the middle is T.
The answer --DUET.
