If the answer is "progenitor" then the clue is wrong?

Should it be "Bemused PRIOR to receiving the low-down from dad"?

Then it would be progenitor= dad ( def))
anagram of "prior to "+ gen (low-down)

It was only ONE word that I had to construct!
"Prior" instead of "profit" - not that difficult!

I'm no good at making up cryptic clues.
Remember the trouble I used to have when I tried playing that game (what was it called? ) with you and Bob's mum, on rainy days?

I could guess the answers, but wasn't any good at producing the cryptic clues when it was my turn.
