It's from Lathe, a carpentry tool. It's cut, Lath(e), bit of wood.

I think it's fine - Lathe definitely equals Carpentry tool and Lath equals a thin strip of wood.

I also think this a weak clue. I don't even think that a lathe is a carpentry tool. More a joinery tool.

Hi I dont think it would be possible to cut a lath with a lathe -- In fact its probably IMPOSSIBLE Kind Regards P
