Thank you, Shooty. My big problem is that the C of offence should be the first letter of 7D & the E of hasten would be the fifth letter of 7D. That would give me C?i?e?. I just can't figure it out.

Are you sure it doesn't say 'Tolled' As in the bells tolled ???

Looked at it with my magnifier & yes it is tolled. Would that make it chimed?

The tabloids print the Xwords so small these days.
MOST people I know who like the Xword challenge are a little more mature. And we all know that our eyesight deteriorates with age.
Shame the Editors of such Tabloids don't appreciate that.
More the point. we are the ones buying the papers and keeping them in a job.

Have a word with yourselves Editors. And Respect us Oldies :-)
