Extra letter in 15a is H ... husband is superfluous to the clue so H for husband is extra. If you need more letters for the 2nd word ask

I have 16d (before amendment) as baste.

I had 5d as fruit fly but couldn't parse it and of course it conflicts with 12a, if that is nightlife, which I couldn't parse either. (At around this point I lost interest in a puzzle with more guesswork than problem solving.)

David glad you go.t 9A.
For 11A the musical term for slowing down is 'RIT' (abbr)
24D I have 'SITE'
28A 'AP' for associated press followed by a word for socialist(minus F) round N.
23D Prefix for 'together with' followed by 'boll'. L extra word which you already have from the instruction.
I am struggling with 2D, 12A and 23A. Help with these appreciated.

Ah! That explains a lot xwordfan. My guess was "homophones of" but it should be "homophone for".

Sorry uncle_w, I can't help with 2D. 12A is mentioned above. 23A is defined in the first three words. The unionists are the TUC. Enough?

2d it's a type of pasta ...if you've changed 11a ... you should have enough crossers to use Chambers word wizard to get it.

23a see earlier post
12a nightlife ? but can't parse
