I'd be grateful for a full explanation of the word play on last clue please:

5d Westminster watcher turned on one in a little Italian (8)

I have ?O?I?I?O which is surely POLITICO but other than the obvious Westminster link I'm struggling on the rest.

LIT is turned on
I is one
POCO is Italian for little

I was completely misleading myself into thinking the little Italian was simply IT. It's no excuse, I should have determined the Italian word for little before giving up!

In fact, in conversational Italian "poco" is almost always shortened to "po" - "un po" is a small amount of something. I tried to work with this to start with.
