17d: one wild cat endlessly confronts another in sunny spot. Answer is anthelion but I can't parse the beginning - obviously lion at the end and the sunny spot is anthelion. Help please.

Panther becomes Anthe (endlessly, chopping off the first and last letters) and add Lion. Anthe lion.

thanks! I was just trying to chop off the back end, rather than both.
