My effort is indeed meant as a homophone of Dehli Ferry with "in a manner of speaking" doing double duty as definition and homophone indicator.

A brief opportunity to give an update but may not get the chance later as where I'm heading God's Country (Larkhall to the uninitiated) isn't conducive to my mobile internet proliver.
With jws's late additions we ended up with a more than respectable 39 clues from 17 setters and with 9 votes cast we have BBM2 @5 & rossim @6 on 2 ahead of 5 others with a vote apiece.

The brilliance of autocorrection, I couldn't have dreamed up proliver but obviously with my lifestyle it gets my thumbs up.
