Having spent an eternity trying to justify "ANNOY" for 7 Across - "Interfere with bribe, blocking a refusal" (5) when the answer is, of course "SNOOP"! I had the right answer for 17 Down - "About to leave, finishing one goal down" (6) - "LOSING".

However, apart from literally meaning the clue, where are the cryptic roots for "LOSING"?

Thanks in anticipation - I have a clear space on the wall allocated for head-banging!

Ta for the reply, I was about to say "no help" but the little grey cells fired up - - - "About" = "Circa" which is left out!
