Thanks jazzgirl. All clues are poor when I can't get the answer, but that one was ambiguous.

Flat containing tons of sole (7)

I've got PLATTER, but can't see how PLAER (platter without the tons) relates to Flat

Can anyone help?

Not PLATTER. Is an anatomical term

Plantar - referring to 'sole' as in foot. Planar = flat, add T, for tons.
