Can you Help with the following please

1. Missile takes front off vehicle (5 letters)

2. Swimmer with tailpiece (4 letters)???A
3. Opening home for animals (5letters) ?L?T?

I always find the short words the hardest, and I have looked ar ORCA and TUNA for 2.

I should add that the 4th letter of 1 is the 2nd letter of 2

Some ideas ...

1. Missile takes front off vehicle (5 letters) ?R??? ... maybe "ARROW" (= "barrow" without the "b" in front)?
2. Swimmer with tailpiece (4 letters)???A ... maybe "CODA" (= "cod" + "a"); did the clue read "Swimmer with a tailpiece", I wonder?
3. Opening home for animals (5letters) ?L?T? ... maybe "SLOTH" (="slot" + "h"), although the clue says animals, rather than animal?

Thanks. Yes the clues did say "a" tailpiece and animal. I had looked at Arrow, but found barrow a very obscure vehicle
