Admitting defeat yet noticing nobody else has had trouble with these two. Makes me think some of my other answers are wrong.
30a Man is one with dull work, finishing early, before time (8), I have

And 23d Number in favour of second man being given a hearing (8)

Any help appreciated.

Archee- totally agree, these last two had me stumped and for record, in my view, they are awful clues, particularly Procaine
