I assume by the lack of comments everybody finished this puzzle tout de suite.

I have noticed over the last few months that the Saturday crossword from the Guardian seems to be getting easier. It used to be a case of using every online tool available to try to find the elusive last few but now I hardly even have to use a search engine just to double check. I doubt I am getting smarter.

Maybe this is all a plan for dumbing us down for the inevitable decline in education standards when we regain control of our country?

In view of the earlier comments, r... f.. I........ then!
I have a problem with the top left, in particular 1,2 down:
Idiotic supporting cruel feeding swindle in fast food chain 6,6
M...I./ r...t. Any hints?

I did finish this one fairly easily.
However, I'm not sure I'm getting any brighter Mamya, just more used to understanding how the setters' brains work.

cymro

a word for 'Cruel' in a short word for 'Swindle' + a word for 'Idiotic'.

Hint

Holes are involved in this foodstuff.

Hi cymro
I think you have gone for MARXIST for 1a - my first thought too, but not correct.

Major eyebrow activity at 1,2 being included in a Guardian crossword!

I agree that many of the weekday ones have been harder than recent Prizes.

Cymric

The first letters of both words are wrong

The definition is fast food chain - and the last 4 letters are a word for idiotic
