Cabbages belong to the "cole" family of plants.

I can see that fits "Pass note", but "something that associates Cabbages with Kings"? Am I just being thick?

King among other things could refer to Nat "King" Cole, the singer.

That gives the plural "Kings", cerasus - even better!
