It was pretty difficult. As for this particular clue, I really wish setters would not rely on peoples names. Virtually any combination of letters, especially these days, can be considered 'a name' ('Apple' Martin/Paltrow!). As for wether a name is male or female, I know three people called 'Kit', two are male and one female. I think it demonstrates laziness or lack of imagination by the setter.

I couldn't agree more. Clues of this nature are impossible to solve from first principles - you have to guess the answer first and then try to work out why it's right.
