Last clue to do - driving me mad. I think I may have made an error in a surrounding clue, but can't find it.

clue is :
Dougal on TV, when shaking a hand, on a roll (5, 7)

I thought the last word might be CHIGNON, which is a roll of hair, but now I have got 20 across, it doesn't fit. Presumably it's an anagram of Dougal on TV, plus an a and h?

My letters are :

A_D_L / _H_N_O_

I don't know what the first word is - ABDUL? But I'm sure all the letters are right from the other clues.

Any help would be much appreciated - I've spent far too long on this already!

Hilary

To me the second word is really I, 6. The anagram isn't 'of Dougal' etc.
The first word isn't Abdul, another person altogether.

I no longer have that edition of R.T. but I think I remember that it was the name of an actor who played Dougal on T.V. and was an anagram of "a hand on a roll"

I had never considered that the anagram bit was 'a hand on a roll'. It's the Father Ted character, Ardal O'Hanlon. I actually went to see him perform at the Edinburgh Festival a few years ago!

Nice to know that all the other clues around it were right.

Many thanks for your help - I can send it off now, just in time!

I think my hints might have been too gentle! Still, Wally's was more generous. Glad you got this one finished off.
